Canadian Aboriginal Artist Peter Hawk Hill to be Featured Among Artist’s at 7th Annual Community Services Fair in Kingston, Canada
- by admin
Kingston, Ontario (PRWEB) May 08, 2012
Peter Hawk Hill is one of a collective of artists who belong to a local area artisan group “Different Strokes” whom are sponsored by Frontenac Community Mental Health Services in Kingston. Along with Hill are other artists, like Hill, whom suffer from many of the various mental disabilities which are becoming prevalent in society today.
“We have to justify ourselves to ourselves” as Hill puts it as far as he is concerned. Different Strokes is an Art group dedicated to both preserving each artist’s dignity and self worth through individual creative self assessment and personal values. Heading up the group is co-ordinator, Randy Johnston, Don King, and Dave Bird, just to name a few. Different Strokes has promoted their artists for sometime and has helped artist Peter Hill to further his work in assisting in his participation in the recent “Touched By Fire” (http://www.touchedbyfire.ca/) exhibition, held in the fall of 2011, held in Toronto. Artist’s in the group create a dynamic unique to people in that personal expression of their works “speak to the soul.”
“We don’t speak through words, but through the strokes of a brush, pencil, paint, or charcoal,” as one fellow artista and friend puts it. Different strokes hopes to further expand its reach through new exhibitions, and other events, hopefully not only in Kingston, but to other places in Canada as well. Peter Hill fully supports Different Strokes in that he, himself is a survivor of mental illness himself.
“I believe we are all Human beings, and all of us should share ourselves to the world, to the benefit of everyone,” as put by Hill. Life for artists with disabilities is a hard life in itself, with the day-to-day struggle that they must endure. Hill himself has had many days of duress and destitution, both mentally and physically, for many years but still endures to this day through his personal drive and ambition.
Ravens Aboriginal Art Company strives to modernize and revolutionize Traditional Aboriginal Art through the collective of artists within the company. Pottery, bead work, and various handwork’s are but a few of the collectives efforts to both bring new and traditional art to the world.
